The Summer and Fall course schedules are typically released to students in mid-March. The Spring schedule is typically released to students in mid-October.
Our craft courses are offered at both the 2000 and 3000 level. You would take one or the other, not both. The equivalent courses cover the same industry knowledge and satisfy the prerequisite requirements for the 4000 level classes. The 3000 level courses typically include a little more academic rigor and extra academic assignments for students who need upper-level coursework as part of their degree requirements. Which one you take mostly depends on which one your school offers. If your school offers both, speak with your academic advisor about which one is the best option for you.
Our post-production classes all meet synchronously, but can either be taken in-person at our Trilith Studios campus in Fayetteville or attended virtually. We offer all of the craft courses in this pathway on a "Hyflex" model which means students at schools outside of the Atlanta area have access to online seats for classes. Students at schools inside the Atlanta area are expected to attend in-person. For more specific schedule/location information, please check our course schedule.
Don't panic! If registration hasn't opened yet, then classes are NOT full. They only appear full because we haven't added seats yet. If classes still look full after registration opens, then make sure to add yourself to our waitlist.
Students can add themselves to our waitlist linked below for any full classes. Should extra seats become available, they will be released to students on our waitlist on a first come, first served basis. Note: the waitlist is not available until registration opens.
Yes! You are more than welcome to take multiple GFA classes at the same time. Keep in mind:
- Students are required to complete prerequisite courses before they register for the requisite course. (For example: students must complete GFA 1000 before they can register for GFA 2010 and they must complete GFA 2010 before they can register for GFA 4010).
- Students canNOT take a course and its prerequisite at the same time. (For example: students cannot take GFA 1000 and GFA 2010 at the same time).
- While students can take multiple post-production classes at the same time, our instructors tend to caution students about this workload. Our Avid classes are very intensive and students may not want to take on the workload for both craft courses at the same time.
Nope! Students can take breaks between classes as needed. We retain your records even if you're not an active student. If you want to take a semester (or a few) off between classes, you will not need to retake anything when you return. You can pick up right where you left off.
You can! Keep in mind that students must meet the following requirements for ALL pathways to earn certification. Credit hours earned in one pathway do NOT transfer to another.
- Completion of at least one (1) introduction course (GFA 1000, GFA 1040 and/or GFA 1501/1500)
- Completion of at least two (2) 2000, 3000, or 4000 level craft courses in the same pathway as your introduction course
Keep in mind: Students are only permitted to take the internship course once. If you are trying to complete multiple pathways, a GFA internship can only count towards one certification.
If you've met the following requirements:
- Completion of at least one (1) introduction course (GFA 1000, GFA 1040 and/or GFA 1501/1500)
- Completion of at least two (2) 2000, 3000, or 4000 level craft courses in the same pathway as your introduction course
Then, congratulations! You are eligible to receive your certification. You will need to submit a petition form to let us know you would like to receive your certification. Keep in mind that it takes us time to process all petitions. You can find more information about when you can expect to receive your certification on the petition form.
Yes! While students are required to take a minimum of 3 classes to earn their certification, they are not limited to those classes. Students are more than welcome to take as many GFA classes as they'd like.
NOTE: For-credit students may want to check with their academic advisors about how many GFA credit hours are counted as part of their degree credits and/or covered by financial aid.
Absolutely! If you've already graduated, but you would like to continue taking classes, you can register directly through our Professional Education program.
You definitely can! Students are more than welcome to take as many GFA classes as they'd like. If you've graduated from your home institution, but want to take more classes, please see the drop-down above regarding this question. Do keep in mind that students are only permitted to take the internship course once, but you're welcome to come back and take any other classes you're interested in!
