The Spring 2026 GFA Internship application is now open!

Greetings ,

Are you interested in applying for the Georgia Film Academy Internship / Apprenticeship course for Spring 2026? The application window is now open!

The GFA Film, Television & Digital Entertainment Internship (GFA 2000) or Apprenticeship (GFA 4000) courses focus on professional-level productions on which students will have roles in on-set, production, post-production, live production, streaming, and esports crafts and industry businesses. This course will provide students with techniques to improve their skills in “real world” settings, add to their resumes, and facilitate networking opportunities. While this course will be a semester-long class, your Internship/Apprenticeship placement will last a minimum of 20 days (160 hours) and could start at any point during the Spring 2026 semester (January 12-April 30). Because of the compressed and sometimes unusual scheduling nature of film production, students must have flexibility in their own schedules to be able to work on these projects.

Eligibility & Considerations

To be eligible for consideration, you must meet ALL of the following criteria:

  1. Successful completion (“B” or better*) of a GFA intro course; AND
  2. Successful completion (“B” or better*) of at least 1 GFA specialty craft course (must be completed by the end of the Fall 2025 semester); AND
  3. Availability to meet the internship/apprenticeship schedule as noted in the paragraph above. You will need to have flexibility in your schedule to potentially work beyond the end of the Spring 2026 semester; AND
  4. (For-credit students ONLY) Be in the final semester of your degree program in Spring 2026 or have graduated

*Note: In certain circumstances, a grade of “C” will be sufficient to attain an internship/ apprenticeship if paired with instructor recommendations.

Keep in mind: because the GFA internship may potentially run 4 weeks, 8.5 hours a day for 5 days a week, it may be difficult for students to complete other traditional college courses at the same time as the GFA Internship. If selected, students may speak with their advisor about the possibility of accommodating the internship schedule with other courses they may be enrolled in at their home institution for Spring. Students must drop all other GFA courses in order to participate in the internship/apprenticeship course.

How to Apply

If you meet the above requirements, please fill out the Spring 2026 GFA Internship/Apprenticeship Application Form no later than 5:00pm on Monday, November 17. The application link will close after this deadline. Students do NOT need to provide any additional items other than the online application. Please do NOT email any applications or supplemental material.

After You Apply

Selection notifications will be sent out after the conclusion of the Fall 2025 semester, around late-December. If you are accepted to participate in the Internship/Apprenticeship course, you will receive registration instructions at that time. The tuition for this course is the same amount as all other GFA courses.

We highly recommend that students who need GFA credits to graduate in the Spring go ahead and register for a back-up class. If you are not selected for the internship, most other GFA classes may already be full by the time you are notified. If you are selected, you can drop the other GFA class you are registered for at that time.

For questions about the Internship/Apprenticeship course, you may contact Kate McArdle, GFA Director of Film Workforce and Career Development, at Kate.McArdle@usg.edu.

Thank you and good luck!

Best,
Emma Smith
